here’s one last entry before the storm

yummy ramen from the new parco millenia walk level 3

parco millenia walk is just as dead as millenia walk used to be. a case of great design but bad decision making when it comes to selecting the retailers to occupy the 3 floor addition. i guess ‘catering to the upper class Singaporean’ always has its trade-offs.

bras basah circle line station - very awesome architectural design. the ceiling is a glass panel and there is water on top so that when there is sunlight, it casts shimmery shadows onto the interior of the station! how cool is that!

bras basah circle line mrt

circle line is awesome btw. all the stations are so nicely designed! pwns marymount mrt anytime man. this particular bras basah mrt has one of the best architectural designs that i’ve ever seen in mrt stations!  the ceiling is made of glass and above that is a pool of water so when there is sunlight, it casts shimmery shadows onto the interior of the station! how cool is that!

haha very very funny. after taking that photo, and zooming in on to the first person on the escalator, i realized she was sleeping on the escalator hand rails!! LOL

i later realized that people down below (in the mrt) can actually see us on top of the bridge. thus, caution when wearing skirts and walking on such a pretty bridge like this to camwhore!

btw wth SMU pwned NUS to getting an MRT station for themselves (wah ok that’s alot of acronyms in one single sentence. hahaha effectively demonstrating singapore’s excessive love for acronyms!). plus bras basah MRT even has a direct link INTO their school. kent ridge MRT links up to NUH only lor. too much, too much…

opportunity cost of perfect vision

Posted on

yesterday when i was halfway through studying the chapter of Opthalamics, i got a call from the Lasik Eye Clinic at Paragon, because i made an online appointment the day before for 12 May.

but before confirming my appt date, the LSC lady rattled on about some promotion that would be ending in April and the gist of it was that it would cost $250 more expensive to get it done in May instead of April. hahaha for those who understand LSC jargon: in April it’s supposedly free pre-evaluation ($100) and i get to use the friend referral discount which she says is $150 but jer got it at $200.

aiyo so i thought about it, and the only day i can do it is after Pharm Pract exam next friday 30 April. by doing so, i’d compromise an entire day of revision because the entire pre-evaluation plus 15 mins procedure would take 6 hours to complete. and i’d be sedated and bug-eyed (literally) for the rest of the day.

so is it worth $250?

haha. NO!

anyway also because my mum wasn’t so keen to do it in May since $250 technically is alot of money, although in comparison to $2688, it is deceivingly negligible. but yes, it is sensible to remember that $250 can fund a month’s supply of online shopping.

so i’m going to risk doing really badly for biotech and opting for the opportunity of a lifetime to finally get perfect vision, and rid my life of all the nonsensical time & money-wasting from contacts. plus, the risk of getting chronic dry eyes due to long-term exposure to the preservatives in contact lens solution, plus the occlusion of oxygen and air. WAH SOMEBODY GIVE ME A FOR PR3107 PHARMACY PRACTICE II!

although i am quite paranoid that i wouldn’t be able to focus on studying after friday. aiyar but wth right, need to take a chill pill about exams sometimes.

so for now, i’m trying to use up all the coloured contacts i bought in december. haha a box of 10 lasted me this long because i was saving them for the hols! how i know, so fast get to go lasik already. i really expected my mum to say NO for like another 5 years. hahaha and luckily my brother just started wearing contacts so my excess lenses can be used to trade for his. plus all the contacts solution would be hardly gone to waste!

ok better dont hope too hard. later go there then find out cornea too thin, zomg no lasik then plan backfire to the max man!

hahaha anw time to sleep! i’ve been very stressed, i lost 1.5 kg because of a general lack of appetite. plus, the Special K cereal diet really works. although i only substitute lunch on weekdays for it since i’m too busy to go out and find proper food. it’s been about a week and a half since i started the diet. haha and the challenge says 2 weeks right? so my hopes are up to lose another 0.5kg (((:

soon, i’ll be able to wear the ASOS dress i was too fat to fit into the last time!

http://www.specialk.com/challenge/instructions

‘Lose 1 inch from your waist in 2 weeks. Take the Special K Challenge™’

hahaha bullshit la dont need to eat dunno what protein shake what! siao, so disgusting! just enroll into some hardcore local uni course to stress you out until it becomes almost too easy to lose the rest of the weight!

when it gets exceptionally difficult to keep up the motivation at home,

go out

and try not to be early so that there’s time to walk around at ION Topshop and be tempted to buy this really nice cropped vest. or if it’s inevitable, use all your willpower to walk out of there WITHOUT the cropped vest because anyway, i already have something that looks like that ):

anyway i was waiting outside the ticketing barriers at ION, just casually leaning on some wall behind me and using my iphone. and then i kept noticing people coming close to me and trying to touch these styrofoam flowers that were next to me. and occasionally i’d end up being blinded by flashing cameras because apparently, the backdrop that i was standing behind is very camera-worthy: can’t be me la right? 😉

hahaha and the last straw was when this woman came up to me and asked,

‘excuse me, sorry, i want to take a picture of the wall…(and you are blocking it)’

wah lao. standing in public space also kenna chased away just because of some stupid styrofoam flowers -.-

had sun with moon for lunch!

must must say how awesome the food is again. i don’t know what authentic jap food is supposed to taste like but this place has one of the best tasting jap food i’ve eaten so far!

salmon and chicken tepanyaki: the salmon is so good it literally melts in your mouth! the chicken was a little dry though.

let me tell you about my favourite desserts so far. when i go to these places to eat, i die die also have to eat the desserts unless i’m too damn full from the food, in which case, i make a mental note not to binge so much on the main course so that i will have room for dessert (:

at number 3 is the Coffee Club mudpie

at number 2 is the fishy ice-cream wafer at Sushi Tei. yea its not really made by them but i always eat it when i go there so i automatically associated with Sushi Tei now.

and at the number 1 spot:

Sun with Moon's mini matcha parfait - BEST DESSERT EVER!!!!!!

it’s like a whole cup of treasures waiting to be discovered as you progress from the top to the bottom of the dessert.

every 5 seconds, we’ll be like ‘OOH! this is a ______!’

here are the components making up the magical mini matcha parfait (in order of top to bottom of the goblet) – excuse the poor choice of words, i have been studying too much microB the day before lol!

green-tea flavoured whipped cream at the top, that jer was very intrigued by

green tea matcha ice-cream: best green tea ice-cream ever, and considering the fact that i don’t like green tea ice-cream on a normal basis

soft red beans covered with sweet red bean sauce

chestnut, that looked like gingko nut so i popped it into my mouth with disgust but turned out to be pleasantly surprised that it was not gingko nut!

wafer biscuit that wasn’t thin and flimsy so you know its cheapo. definitely tastes like the typical awesome quality of japanese biscuits!

mochi balls! very chewy!

– some green jelly, possibly green-tea flavoured?

a cube of sponge cake, possibly green-tea flavoured again? i dont know! i was eating too fast because it was too yummy!

cornflakes! to make the finale of the dessert a whole lot more memorable (:

maybe if i buy less clothes, i can eat at Sun with Moon more often!

very yummy muji marshmallow ballz

so glad that today finally dissipated all the pent up stress i’ve been holding on to for the past 6 weeks (literally). i’ve never really missed a period before so this time around it must have been really bad for hormone level to drop really low. never thought i’d be relieved to welcome its arrival though haha WHATS UP WITH THE CHOICE OF WORDS TONIGHT!

super tired already. anyway,

theres nothing like being in the company of someone who understands perfectly (:

blogging for your benefit

Posted on

hahaha kaye insisted on me blogging to entertain her, and so i said ‘but i have nothing to talk about!’

but as usual when someone asks me to do something, although i say no at first, i always end up giving it second and third thoughts just to see whether i really mean it when i say no.

so i thought about what interesting things happened today

and ignoring the part where i studied for 12 hours, the most exciting thing that happened today was that…

ALL MY SHOPPING LOOT ARRIVED!! (:

i was actually also deliberately camping at home today just to make sure i received all my parcels.

yesterday ASOS came when i was away in school and nobody was at home to receive it! ultra-sad when i came home and found the failed delivery note telling me to get my ass down to thomson post office to collect it myself. and so i did. at 1130am today, i trudged out in the hot, merciless sun, negating all 2 months worth of efforts to whiten my skin, sweating profusely for a good long 15 minute walk (didn’t make much sense to take a bus) to the post office to get my asos parcel.

i took a bus back because it didn’t make sense to walk back. hahahaha!! enough effort for the day already.

and i willed myself to finish studying that set of biotech notes before i opened the parcel and unraveled my wonderful UK loot.

ASOS Basic Fitted Cut Away Round Hem Vest

Basic Fitted Cut Away Round Hem Vest; 8 pounds

i already have this in blue, and pink. but the muscle-tee cutting is so unique and nice. no other shop sells basis that look like that! plus it seems to make my narrow shoulders look better than normal tanks. absolutely love it!!

plus asos always make their models wear this tank when they model it with skirts. so it’s so easy to find new ways to match this tank with the stuff that’s already in my wardrobe, or heh heh, buy the exact bottoms that they match it with on asos.

ASOS Printed Tulip Skirt

like with a colourful tulip skirt

ASOS Printed Skirt

or with a poofy printed skirt!

here’s another thing i bought

ASOS Wrap Front Vest

ASOS Wrap Front Vest; 12 pounds

absolutely love the colour! and the design is very unique as well! unfortunately, it turned out to be a little more cotton than i thought. haha material looked alot stiffer in the picture so i assumed it was rayon. hee hee gonna wear it to school tomorrow, so exciting!

ASOS Floral Printed Short Sleeve Top

ASOS Floral Printed Short Sleeve Top; on sale for 12 pounds, NOW OOS ;D

one of the few things that i’m currently collecting for my preceptorship wardrobe in July. yea it’s abit informal but who cares, i’m going to be wearing the jacket over it anyway. either that, or i can pair it wit a bodycon skirt and go out shopping at night once silly exams are over!

like this!

and finally, this is not porn, but pretty amazing bra technology

ASOS Boudoir Multiway Bra

ASOS Boudoir Multiway Bra; 12 pounds

for just 12 pounds, which worked out to be $28 sing, i got a bra, 2 sets of bra straps (transparent and nude) and an extension for the low back conversion. seriously damn multiway la!!

thank god for this picture, otherwise i'd never know how to work the extension strap!

i bought this solely because i needed another strapless nude bra. i didn’t trust the low back strap because it really looks like it would drop if you didn’t have the shoulder straps. eh but i tried it today and miraculously, it’s extremely secure!! without the shoulder straps!! although the extension strap kind of feels like a corset, and GERD-inducing. but i guess it’d be ok to wear for short intervals with something that requires the low back effect.

hahaha another funny story. i was trying to attach the bra straps back after that, and then i realised there wasn’t ANY (whatever you call that thing) to hook the strap on to! i checked and checked for like half an hour. i even turned on my laptop just to look at the asos picture of the bra and figure out why is it that this bra has no thingies to attach the straps on!

i was THIS CLOSE to filing a defective product email complaint. i even filled up all of the boxes in the online comment form. but then towards the end, i figured it would be embarrassing, asking for technical advise on how to attach bra straps, and i didn’t really need the straps anyway.

the moment i gave up, i found it. hahaha i was sqeezing the hem line (in part frustration) when i realised that there was actually 2 narrow slips cut into the hem line. omg STEALTH TO THE MAX!

but yea, if you think about it, that makes the design pretty cool! hahaha but wtf, worse than finding easter eggs ok!

you found me

wave 3 completed! success!! hahaha despite it being the shittiest week i’ve ever had in a long long time, at least it’s all over!

microB test gave me at least 2 sleepless nights and lots more anxious hours awake because it was tested on such a broad range of topics that nobody had any time to prepare thoroughly for. no one really knew what was going to be tested and the risk of studying for nothing was at an ultra high.

in the end, i only spotted 1 our of 3 questions correctly. and the other two, thankfully, i vaguely remembered studying for. and by some stroke of luck, i managed to guess the methods correctly. and by an even bigger stroke of luck, i even managed to obtain the correct set of results!!

i’ve never been more delighted and overjoyed to see little rods of bacteria coming into focus as i was turning the dial of the microscope hopelessly during the last 10 minutes that i had in the test. if i hadn’t been able to see, i’d have no more time to stain a second slide of bacteria. so it was really really really lucky that i managed to get it, considering i’ve been a hopeless case all semester and this is the first time that i ever managed to see bacteria on a microscope all by myself!

and then on friday i was so scared that my nutrient broths would have no turbidity because of silly experimental errors that i’m usually highly capable of committing. but omg there was turbidity!!! so overjoyed…

pharm pract on wednesday was lame i dont want to talk about it. the whole pharm pract module has been pathetic for me this semester. 2 more weeks to buck up and show them Who’s Boss at finals.

after the microB test on friday, all of us went out to destress for awhile. rebecca drove us to Cathay where we ate astons and sat there for a long time gossiping and unraveling gossip about our own selves. i find it extremely amusing to realize that some people are not as oblivious to gossip as they may seem. gotta watch my back now.

am posing in such an odd angle because the timer was about to go off and this bunch of idiots were almost going to walk into the frame of the photo

i was trying to convince mag and rebecca to get iphone! and as our conversation progressed to other topics, we ended up discussing about Usher cheating on some girl from TLC. and then somebody said that one of the members of TLC died, either by plane crash or car crash. and then rebecca said C, in a car crash. but suelynn claimed it was L. and kaye said it could’ve been plane crash instead of car crash.

so, in summary, the options were:

A. T

B. L

C. C

dying in a

A. plane crash

B. car crash

and while they were still at it, i secretely googled it on my iphone and 2 seconds later, i confirmed,

‘it’s L, and it’s in a plane crash’

hahahahahahha, rebecca and mag were sold!!! now to start evangelizing the others out there, here are some great apps! all FOC in the apps store btw!

1. Words Free

almost like Scrabble, except with a different board. and you can play it with another fellow iphone user friend! the best thing about it is that you don’t have to camp there in the app to finish the game. each turn can be taken as leisurely as you like. you can even think about which letter combination to unleash for maximum points overnight, and make the move the next day. and then your friend gets the notification that you’ve made the move, indicating it’s his turn to play!

but like all games, losing is a bitch. but you can easily resign whenever you like and start a new game hee hee!

2. Scoopz

oh, i don’t need to say why this game is so ridiculously addictive! current highscore amongst us Scoopzers is 226K as set by my brother. top that and you earn the Scoopz-endary status!

3. MoreLomo

turns all the pictures you take to lomo shots- in which there is a circle of light in the middle and is darker around the edges. i’m lousy at camera lingo la so here’s an example

over lunch!

4. Emoji Free

liven up your iphone sms conversations with super cute emoticons!!

obviously not my phone. i'm not lame

would you believe that there're actually more emoticons than this!

it has cute emoticons to describe almost every single activity! like swimming, shitting HAHA, and check out my favourite, PAINTING NAILS!! LOLLL!

5. tranSGuide

best app for poor people like me who use public transport. great especially when you don’t enjoy waiting in the hot sun for a bus that takes centuries to arrive. but instead, now, you can go chill somewhere- possibly entertaining yourself with the numerous apps on iphone. and then time your stroll to the bus stop just in time to catch the bus.

BUY BUY BUY!

or wait another 6 months+ to get the 4GS. damn you apple, DAMN YOU!!

anyway my saturday was very well utilized to study! i think i’m getting better at the whole studying outside home experience. i’ve learnt to tune out the rubbish coming from the people all around me and just focus my thoughts on memorizing. although a bunch of kids next door were talking about black rappers very loudly and that threw me off quantal dose curves for abit to eavesdrop on their strange conversation.

even managed to study a whole set of pharm pract notes while standing in a crowded bus! hahaha my nerd abilities really amaze me sometimes.

also tried pasta fresca for the first time today! went to the siglap branch, although the whole siglap area generally reminds me of bukit timah. haha food was not bad! better than prego i think. you can really taste the home-made quality in the food there. the ambience was very homely and cozy as well. although our seat was far too cozy because the fatty angmoh behind took up so much space.

fettucine with salami and mushrooms. a cheese-based pasta that tasted really good at first but got extremely je-lat towards the end :S

because jeremy likes prawns, pizza Marinara! oh and the prawns and mussels were really fresh too!

the crepe that looked so yummy on the menu but tasted horrible. the sauce was too sweet and the ice-cream was nothing special. the crepe tasted like unbaked dough bleargh. totally not worth $8.90!

haha and finally,

4 batches of f21 arrived yesterday and i was being a complaining, grumpy bitch because the packing and billing took 3 hours of my precious relaxation time. but so glad it’s all done now! can’t wait for the other 2 batches to come because my stuff are in one of them!

grumble grumble grumble

the age of the iphone

meet panty, and with her, i’m officially a member of the iPhone generation

the name panty comes from a long-time tradition of gen and i wishing each other 'nighty panty'. other rhyming variations also include 'nightex kotex'. haha but it would be brutal to name my iphone kotex

funny story:  i woke up this morning thinking i was going to be spending an entire day memorizing microB nonsense for my practical test on tuesday. i did not think i was going to be wasting precious time playing with an iphone, and i certainly did not think i was going to Get an iphone.

the original plan was to wait until september, when my 21 months would be up, and then to renew the contract with the iphone. but seeckening, today my dad came home from the market and told me that his housewife friend says that Singtel will allow you to recontract without penalty even when the 21 months is not up! so he was like ‘eh you want to get your iphone today?’

and that was enough to kickstart the whole illogical process that had no turning back once the thought of getting an iphone TODAY RIGHT NOW was well in my head. ah well, even after i found out that the housewife was talking nonsense about the absence of the penalty, i was still dead set on getting it.

the 16gb iphone costs $518, and including the $100, i paid $618. all. by. myself.

): because i am VERY BROKE NOW

(: because that’s independence for you. and that left me rather immune to my parents’ usual nagging about how i spend their money unnecessarily.

ok but i swear i’m going to earn it all back slowly with tuition and selling clothes.

another justification is that i’m already in year 2 sem 2, which means i only have 2 more years to enjoy the youth plan. so wah lao, might as well get it earlier!

yea i know there’s a great BB vs iPhone war. and to be honest, i’ve never liked an iPhone because of the touch screen. i hated the msging because always typo, and the battery is lousy because you have to charge everyday. i wanted a BB so bad because of the qwerty keypad! which was why i got the Nokia E63. but then i realised that it became very troublesome when my thumbnail grew too long, and i had problems typing on the teeny tiny buttons. and the Nokia E63 honestly bored me to no end because i couldn’t do ANYTHING on it. and then came along my ipod touch! and the joys of using wifi to mousehunt, forever 21, asos, hotmail, tweet, fb, scoopz and spazzle!

but then, wifi is a bitch because not everywhere has it, and it’s damn annoying to have to log in all the time! and and and, the places that you feel bored the most doesn’t have wifi! like the bus stop, like in the mrt, like at tuition (haha oops), and like in LT 20 (seeckening, dunno which smart lecturer blocked wifi for ipod touch in that lt that i have lessons at twice a week for 4 hours each).

and now, the solution to all my problems? the iPhone

bb still seems to be targeted at highend users who’s phone bills are paid for by their companies anyway. the plans are like crazily expensive compared to the iphone, where for just $39 a month, you get 12 times the data that bb plans offer (12 x 1 lol!) great for lowly commoners like me who don’t have rich parents to borrow bbs from.

besides, 12gb gives alot of room for things like tweeting, fbking, checking bus timings so that while everyone has to wait 10-20 minutes under the sweltering Singapore sun for buses because they are unable to predict the future, you can simply stroll along in time to catch the bus, no sweat! also, also, did you know that if you go outside and use your laptop, you can simply plug in your iphone and leech off the 12gb to surf wireless on the laptop! pfft who needs wireless SG anymore- actually me right now, cos the stupid internet surfing only begins on tuesday -.-

so yes, i am now very assured that $618 is a good investment!

anyway, last thursday (april fool’s) i brought my camera to school and photographed all the usual nonsense that we get up to!

the possibility that cassy could swing both ways

attack of the butts!

kaye doing her rendition of the head toss, that usually accompanies her complaints whenever she tries to describes how she was 'tossing and turning' the night before

there's suelynn's very artistic head toss

mine just looks like a punishment- death by hair asphyxiation

tickling kaye! oh i just love the shutter speed!

SPOTTED! coupling faster than a G protein 😉

the ideal height difference

Posted on

When in Rome is a great movie and definitely an even compromise between, say, Clash of the Titans and Remember Me (will find a way to watch it, by hook or by crook. Pattinson, waitt for meeeee!)

anyhow, i thought it was a super hilarious chickflick, with the standard cliches but enough slapstick humour to drive the movie back up the awesome scale! or rather, Jon Heder single-handedly did. he was so different from when i remembered him in Blades of Glory! at least now i know he’s totally not gay haha!!

but otherwise, i was pretty disturbed by the sheer height difference between Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel (<3)!!! it’s like Lord of the Rings + Clash of the Titans in the same movie!

how far back does my head have to tilt before you get the hint that i want to kiss you?

even with 3 inch heels, she's only eye-level with his chest!

must have given her alot of neckache and him alot of backpain man.

aww but sho shweet Duhamel was like the dream with his unrelentless chasing despite the Bell’s character bordering on psychotic since she believes in some weirdass shit about a coin curse. although if it were a real-life situation, he could probably get himself a girl twice as hot and not need to bother- but, my dear, FERGIE IS NOT IT!

but despite all the illogic, i still love watching chickflicks time after time because they paint a picture of positivity. nobody likes horrid movies with tragic endings, they might as well watched their own lives on replay. even when we make home videos, nobody makes videos of painful things (except maybe masochistic sex :S). people make videos of birthday parties, proposals, weddings and childbirths (joy of motherhood trumps physical pain). nobody films a break up intentionally. and even funerals are documented to honour the memory of the person, and not because someone likes to watch people cry.

so even if the hope is false, the irrational side of me still feels happy because there is a possibility that all these could happen in real life (:

anyway, NEW SPONGEBOB ADDITION!

spongebob! from the land of germany! 😀

it's a bad sign when someone says you look just like spongebob in this photo :S
