nutella coated chocolate brownies

Posted on

was browsing for recipes that night of the GE results announcement, specifically, for apple crumble. but all looked too hard and i either didn’t know what the ingredient was, couldn’t possibly find such an angmoh ingredient in NTUC, or the end-product just didn’t look convincingly appetizing.

so i was back again on averagebetty.com, which is a reallyyy good website with loads of easy and reliable recipes!

decided to make chocolate brownies! but i didn’t want to make the icing or frosting cos i know Singaporeans generally cannot stomach things that are way too sweet. so i opted for Nutella spread nicely on top when the brownies were semi-cool (:

Ingredients for The Best Brownies Ever:
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs
2/3 cup flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt

so easy to do! took me only 2 hours and because there was alot of waiting time, i managed to finish wash up before the brownies emerged from the oven.

after pouring the batter into the baking tray, prior to the oven

was highly suspicious that the batter wouldn’t be enough to form a thick enough brownie! cos it was seriously damn flat on the tray. but then i decided to trust the self-raising capabilities of the flour and baked it anyway. thankfully it rose by a considerable amount to become a normal looking brownie, otherwise all i’d have is chocolate pancake.

naked brownies! which also taste good on its own, although i'd choose not to use salt next time

coated with nutella on top! a great substitute for icing man, i'm such a genius

the nutella also helped to balance abit of the saltiness. i think that 1/4 teaspoon of salt (as stated in the original recipe) made the brownies taste abit odd. i dunno, maybe some people enjoy salty brownies. but after the generous layer of nutella on top, the saltiness was gone.

baked only 1 batch this time and cut it up into bite-sized pieces so they’d be addictive but not too gelat with every serving (: that is the trick to deceiving people that your brownies actually taste good. but no la they really do taste awesome. i have renewed confidence in my baking skillz again 😀

now must man up and challenge myself to bake apple crumble.
