too soon for farewell

Posted on

i can’t even begin to tell you how much i really miss the past 3 days.

despite having a ‘holiday’ in a local hotel, eating local food, and enjoying local sights and sounds, it was probably one of the best holidays i’ve ever taken in my life.

Day 1

we checked in at 3.30pm into our joint deluxe rooms- the same ones we got for seniors night 2 years ago (haha feels weird saying that 2007 was 2 years ago). one room had a king-sized bed, while the other has 2 single beds. toilets were fantastic and the towels smell darn good.

while waiting for dear matin to book out, we sat through an hour of the Order of the Phoenix rerun on HBO, went to the adjacent Amara Shopping Centre and got food and drinks, went back and watched Transformers because matin hadn’t arrived.

when he finally arrived though, we headed down to Clarke Quay for dinner and the New Years Day countdown.

we walked from Clarke Quay, to Robertson Quay, sat down at one of them laupok-looking open air seafood restaurants and walked out again because the menu was ridiculously priced. a plate of fried rice there costs $19, and unless you’re telling me that i’m eating gold rice, that is exortion!

finally decided to walk back to Clarke Quay for dinner at coffee club. it was 9 plus by the time my poor famished stomach had anything to digest.

coffee club’s closing time was our cue to get our butts over to the countdown. unfortunately, i had gotten the venue wrong. well i thought the countdown was in front of Central. but then it was actually on the opposite side of the river. and by 11plus, the entire bridge was jammed packed with people, so decided to stay where we were. and besides, it was closer to the MRT haha. all the more convenient for us to chiong home before all the crowds disperse.

less than 5 minutes after the whole of Clarke Quay shouted Happy New Year, we were dashing for the MRT along with the noob teenagers who had curfews to keep to. hahaha seriously the most memorable NYE ever.

we got back to the hotel in record time, walking in on the NYE countdown party ($140++ per person) at the hotel. the theme was Viva Las Vegas, and they had 10 tables arranged in the hotel lobby, a really strange band playing noisily in the background, and lots of boring rich people in attendance.

much to our delight, the hotel had blown up about 100 helium balloons, that were all stuck to the ceiling at the lobby bar. like little kids, except with more height to our advantage now, we jumped around in the empty bar and tried to collect as many helium balloons as possible.

weijoe led the way and brought us over to an open space next to the hotel, where we made our NY wishes and released the balloons. lol both mel and weijoe’s bunches got stuck in the trees. mine made it way up into the sky before it disappeared into the darkness. looks like 4.5 cap is coming my way this year after all!

we retired to the hotel and continued our little party. which basically consisted of Mario Kart on Wii and a bottle of white wine.

i had finished my third glass when everything started to spin around me. haha i was half stumbling while getting to the toilet, and doing much worse than usual at mario kart. haha you know what they say, dont drive when you drink. soon, i gave up maintaining my centre of gravity and crashed for the night.

Day 2

bloody hell, it was so cold that i barely slept. the sheets were comfortable though but the aircon kind of freezes everything up in the day so they dont really help in keeping warm at night.

but heck, nothing was gonna stop me from having fun!

subway was for brunch, since no one got up earlier than 11. in the afternoon, we went swimming at the lovely balinese-style swimming pool on level 6 of the hotel!

Photobucket
haha all robed up for the pool!

Photobucket

it had started drizzling when we got there, so the water was freezing. but a ‘last one to get into the pool pays for dinner!’ call finally got all of us into the pool. it was so empty! just 4 of us and the entire pool for ourselves the entire afternoon. damn shiok!!

i brought my pink goggles and matin decided to play a little game called ‘hide and seek goggles’
haha so 3 of us would close our eyes at one end of the pool, while the ‘hider’ goes and drop the goggles into a spot at anywhere in the pool.

i was ‘hider’ the first time, and i left the goggles in the corner of one of the pool steps. hahaha they took ages to find it, until finally, weijoe stumbled across it. round 1 to weijoe!

Photobucket
oh that’s me with a piece of masking tape that i thought was the white goggles. damn

the next couple of rounds saw matin and weijoe victorious again. maybe boys have better mermaid vision. oh well the game got boring when we weren’t winning. so we went back to goofing around with self-timer shots.

day 2 ended with dinner at pasir panjang food centre.

stingray, chili crab, oyster omelette and satay.
bloody chili crab gave me a sore throat after that ): and now i’m down with the flu

we bummed around at vivo for awhile, in search of cheap and good ice-cream. finally we gave up and went back to amara, where we bought ice-cream from NTUC, 7-11 and edo sushi.

the 4 of us tried to watch spiderman 3 rerun on HBO while waiting for our tummies to get hungry for macdonalds supper. but eventually, melinda fell asleep and i couldnt take anymore of Tobey Maguire and his pervy face, so i went back too.

thanks to the fact that i had finally figured out how to increase the aircon temperature, i had a fantastic sleep that night, only interrupted once by my full bladder. its sad that i’m back to boring old single mattress on a rickety bed frame, with spongebob pillow and comforter, and NO aircon.

Day 3

woke up at 10am because check out was 12pm.

blah, it had ended all too soon. we spend the final solemn hour playing Mario Kart and watching MIB on HBO. haha seems like HBO was one of the few sources of entertainment that we had in the whole trip.

we koped shower cap, shampoo and body soap back as souvenirs from the hotel. haha weijoe managed to kope like 6 bottles of shampoo and soap, plus a towel, from the unattended room-keeping kart the day before, so there was definitely more than enough to go around, despite our excessive (and intentional) showering habits. i wanted to bring home the bedroom slippers but there was no space in my bag for that ):

after checking out, we dragged our heavy bags to Hans for lunch, and then to macdonalds for lunch part 2. haha i went home and slept soundly in my boring old bed the entire afternoon, and am still nursing the flu.

this is going to be the last time hanging out together in a long long time. matin’s leaving for thailand on sunday, while melinda’s going back to UK for another 7 odd months next friday. well, at least we’ve made enough memories over the past 3 days to last us for the next half of the year.

on the bright (and hopeful) side,
7 more months till the next awesome hotel stay! 😀
